While the hop on, hop off tour concept has been a mainstay in many European cities for quite a while, this relatively new service offered exclusively by MaltaSightSeeing is a first for Malta and more recently Gozo. While Malta’s size should make it a relatively easy place to explore, public transport is all focused on linking all of Malta with Valletta and all of Gozo with Victoria and there is no other real practical option for tourists looking to visit multiple towns (even through scenic secondary roads) without having to retreat back to Valletta or Victoria each time.
The Gozo SightSeeing hop on, hop off service addresses this issue and offers a practical tour service linking all the popular places of interest on the Maltese islands and more. The buses are a mix of modern and retro double deckers with an open top…a feature that can be used for the 300 days of sunshine Malta gets every year
The Gozo Route departs from Mgarr Harbour and visits the Ggantija Temples & Xaghra Windmill, Calypso’s Cave (photo stop), Marsalforn Bay, Ta’ Pinu Basilica, the Crafts Village, Azure Window (Dwejra), Fontana Cottage and Xlendi Bay. It ends back at Mgarr Harbour and passes by the Victoria Bus Station a number of times.
The Gozo tour operates daily from 9.30am every hour with the last one leaving at 2.30pm.
Each tour takes just under three hours without leaving the bus but this would obviously defeat the tour’s hop on, hop off concept and a normal tour can fill a whole day or more to explore Gozo’s culture and heritage.
Each tour includes an audio commentary in 8 languages: Maltese, English, Italian, French, Spanish, German, Danish & Russian
Fares are EUR 15 for adults and EUR 9 for children (free of charge if under 5 years of age).
